Blog Assignment #3

A few weeks ago, we were asked to begin thinking about who we would want to write our letters of recommendation and how that person will aid in our success at Iowa State. I also thought about what I would have to do to get these letters. As time went on, I realized that it won't be easy, because life is never easy. I realized that I would have to work very hard to get what I want.
As a freshman, I know that I have a lot left to learn. Just when we think we know everything, we find that there's more. In the meteorology program, many of the faculty are specialized in just one area, and that is all they focus on. I will have to get help from more than a few of these people, because I don't want to focus on just one aspect of the weather. I have already met some really awesome professors in my classes who I can relate to. Not only do they all have degrees, they all have degrees from some of the top schools in the nation.
Your mentor can't just be anybody off of the street. If they were, I'm guessing that most people wouldn't get any good advice. I definitely want my mentors to know what they are talking about. They should be able to guide me on what classes to take to get towards my goal of the National Weather Service.
In conclusion, I don't want just anybody to help me through college. I want someone who knows what they are talking about. In order to achieve my dreams, I have to work hard to get what I want. Life is never easy, and sometimes we have to do things we don't want to in order to get ahead.

Clubs/Organizations

Relax guys, that's my dog and he's not vicious, just thinks he is. We call this his "smile". :)

On to the subject of this blog: I went to clubfest and walked around for a little while. After much thinking, I finally decided to join ISU for Darfur and another club that volunteers to feed the hungry children of Africa. I am already a part of PAWS, which is a group designed to help the animals that are brought to the pound. But, I wanted to make more of a difference for people so now I'm volunteering to feed pets and people.

As much as I enjoy helping these animals and people, it still makes me a little sad to think that they are not getting help because no one wants to give an hour of their time to give them food, water, and other things that we all need to survive. If you were stuck in a bad situation, wouldn't you want some help? We can't do it all on our own....

I decided to volunteer because I grew up in a big family, and money was always tight, even with the many hours I put in every week at McDonald's (oh joy...). I knew that by the time I got to college, there would be even less money thanks to books and everything else I needed. So, I decided that I needed to give back and help other people that are just like me. I figured they might just pass on the favor. As for the animals, well judging from the picture above, I do love my dog. Everyday, I hear about some dog or cat or other animal that needs to be put down because they are "a danger to society." Really people, they are only a danger because you let them be that way. A dog doesn't grow up in a good family with good people and then suddenly decide it wants to attack little kids. It's a learned behavior, and it's not their fault.

Ok I'm gonna stop rambling now. Bye :)

What I Wish I Had Known For College

College has definitely been an interesting experience for me. Just when you think you've got it down, everything can change and I seem to spend a lot more time confused lately. I wish I had known to bring my ISUcard with me everywhere and that it would be my lifeline. I forgot to grab it the first night here and got myself locked out of Helser in my pajamas. (Oops.) I also wish that I had known that my Math 142 professor is a little crazy and psycho. The first day, he told the class that everything we learned in high school trigonometry is wrong. What do you do in that situation? You learn it all over again....grrr.....
Sure, college has been quite a change for me from what I was used to, but don't we all need a little change every once in a while? Life just wouldn't be fun without it....
